Blog 2- The Storm- Sukhmeet Kaur
In the short story, "The Storm", written by Kate Chopin, set in the 1800's in Louisiana. This was a time of inequality, racism, and sexism. During this time, women were more conservative and were always expected to act or present themselves in a certain matter. In this short story many boundaries are broken and faith is tested between relationships. The women Calixta, married and has a son is home alone when an awful storm strikes. Her former lover, Alcee is riding by and asks for shelter at her house till the storm calms down. During the storm the two remember their old memories which leads them to having an intimate relationship throughout the storm. When the storm stops they both return to their respective places. This story tells us of the importance of one's decision. Even though back in the days, women were always held back and had a restriction put on them. Due to this Calixta felt the urge to do what she did. Even though there were restrictions, I think that women should have had a say in their lives. I would recommend this short story. It's a great read.
